Nyanga Film Premieres, Showcasing Courage, Conservation, and Leadership

The Joina City Ster-Kinekor in Harare was abuzz as prolific filmmakers Eddie Ndlovu and Djakov Jakovic premiered their latest film, Nyanga, to two full-capacity cinema audiences. The movie, which serves as a powerful narrative tool, delves into wildlife preservation while addressing societal crises that impact human life.

A Bold Storyline with Meaningful Lessons
Set against the backdrop of the breathtaking Nyanga Game Park, Nyanga explores themes of courage, adventure, gender responsiveness, leadership, and the tragedies that arise from incompetence and insensitivity. The story unfolds around the challenges of conserving rhinos in a resort area struggling with limited resources, including inadequate staff accommodation, transportation, and health facilities.

The film sheds light on the importance of wildlife conservation and promotes Zimbabwe’s natural beauty, highlighting the Nyanga mountain and its resorts as premier tourist attractions. Eddie Ndlovu described the project as a testament to the values he holds dear, using film as a tool to lure investors and revive tourism in Zimbabwe.

A Resilient Lead Character
Maseko, played by Benhilda Kandawasvika, is the film’s standout character. Initially doubted for her ability to lead, Maseko proves her critics wrong, emerging as a fierce and determined protector of wildlife. Her victory in the bloody battle against poachers underscores the importance of empowering women in leadership roles. Kandawasvika reflected on her role, saying, “Maseko’s courage and strength demonstrate the necessity of grooming women to take up leadership and drive meaningful change.”

A Family Affair with Rising Stars
Eddie Ndlovu’s son, Andre Ndlovu, stars as Simba, a young man romantically linked to Maseko’s daughter Tanya, played by Owami Ndlovu. Andre, who also served as the director of photography, described the experience as rewarding. Owami added that portraying Tanya taught her valuable lessons about resilience and the consequences of despair, urging young people to reject suicide and embrace life’s challenges.

Challenges During Production
Filming Nyanga came with its own set of hurdles, including unpredictable weather conditions in Nyanga and lengthy treks to capture the perfect scenes. Despite these challenges, the talented cast and crew brought the story to life, filming in iconic locations such as Nyanga, Hwedza, Lake Kyle, and Gonarezhou Game Park.

A Launch to Remember
The premiere was marked by a glamorous red-carpet event, where cast, crew, and attendees celebrated the success of the film. Post-production sound designer Joshua Cannings praised the project’s execution, while Collin Ndabezinhle Ncube, who played the main character Panga, commended the teamwork that made the film possible.

Driving Change Through Film
Eddie Ndlovu and Djakov Jakovic emphasized that wildlife conservation requires immense resources and collaboration. They expressed hope that Nyanga would not only inspire audiences but also encourage investment and support for future conservation projects.

With its gripping storyline, stunning visuals, and important social messages, Nyanga is poised to leave a lasting impact on Zimbabwe’s film industry and beyond.
