Award-winning visual artist and Swiss-Zim Heritage co-founder Keith Zenda, along with celebrated Zimbabwean artists Tonderai Mujuru and Barry Lungu, will represent Zimbabwe at the prestigious Hamptons Fine Art Fair in New York, United States. The fair, renowned for its curation of 20th and 21st-century artworks, is scheduled to run from July 10 to 13 at the Southampton Fairgrounds.
The trio will present their joint exhibition, An African Story, which reflects the richness of African creativity and culture. Known for their vibrant depictions of traditional ceremonies, daily life, urban landscapes, and wildlife, their works merge contemporary techniques with traditional African themes.
Last year, Zenda gained international recognition through a month-long exhibition and residency in Dubai, which earned significant acclaim on social media. This year, he brings his expertise to the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, which he describes as a “global chief event” and a must-attend for art enthusiasts and collectors.
“The 2025 edition is expected to break attendance, media coverage, and engagement records,” said Zenda. “This year, we bring the vibrant story of African art to this elite fair with our exhibition titled An African Story in the Hamptons.”
The participating artists bring diverse strengths to the exhibition:
- Keith Zenda captures the essence of Zimbabwean culture through vibrant storytelling in his paintings. His work highlights community stories and the beauty of traditions, resonating deeply with audiences worldwide.
- Tonderai Mujuru specializes in breathtaking wildlife art that reflects the majesty of Zimbabwe’s fauna and calls for conservation of Africa’s natural heritage. His art emphasizes the deep connection between humans and nature.
- Barry Lungu, with over 25 years of experience, is celebrated for his interpretations of urban and rural life. His paintings capture the buzz of township life and the serenity of Zimbabwe’s countryside.
The An African Story narrative offers visitors an immersive journey into African traditions, contemporary life, and the evolving Zimbabwean art landscape. In addition to showcasing their works, Zenda, Mujuru, and Lungu will interact with art lovers, curators, and collectors to further the global conversation about African art.
Zenda, as part of the Swiss-Zim Heritage, has also extended opportunities to emerging artists by inviting three to four young talents to showcase their work at the fair. “We believe in nurturing up-and-coming talent, giving them global recognition and enriching their artistic journeys,” he said.
The Hamptons Fine Art Fair is set to be a groundbreaking event for these Zimbabwean artists, solidifying their place on the global art stage while spotlighting the vibrancy and dynamism of African art.
