Invictus Energy Secures Key Environmental Approval for Mukuyu Gas Project

Invictus Energy Limited (ASX: IVZ) has received approval from the Zimbabwe Environmental Management Agency (EMA) for its Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), a crucial step in advancing pilot production at the Cabora Bassa Project.
This milestone clears the path for the development of the Mukuyu gas field and further exploration within Special Grant 4571 (SG 4571) and Exclusive Prospecting Orders (EPOs) 1848 and 1849. The approval comes with the issuance of License No: L10000062291.
The ESIA covers key project activities, including gas extraction, liquefaction, and transportation. It also includes the Eureka Gold Mine Gas-to-Power Project, a collaboration between Invictus, Dallaglio (owner of Eureka Mine), and Himoinsa SA (an onsite power generation provider). The initiative aims to harness Mukuyu’s gas resources to provide a stable power supply to the mine.
Invictus and Himoinsa are currently working with technology providers to finalize gas processing, liquefaction, and logistics solutions as part of an ongoing feasibility study.
Preliminary findings from the Eureka gas-to-power project suggest a competitive gas price exceeding US$10/GJ for gas-fired power generation, aligning with existing grid tariffs. According to Invictus Energy, this highlights the potential economic viability of the Mukuyu gas field for power generation in Zimbabwe and the broader region.
The ESIA approval builds on an extensive 2019 environmental assessment—one of Zimbabwe’s most comprehensive studies. This earlier evaluation included field surveys and baseline data collection in hydrology, ecology, environmental and archaeological assessments, hydrogeology, soil surveys, and socioeconomic studies. The consultation process involved key stakeholders such as local leaders, government ministries, and extension offices.
Invictus Energy Managing Director Scott Macmillan emphasized the significance of this approval, stating:
“The ESIA approval is a critical milestone for Invictus, paving the way for the future development of the Mukuyu gas field and broader exploration license areas. We will now finalize pilot production planning, secure all necessary permits, and advance discussions with additional potential offtake partners.”
