Armed Robbers Raid Home of Zimbabwean Minister Kirsty Coventry’s Parents

A gang of armed robbers stormed the home of Robert Edwin and Lyn Coventry, the parents of Zimbabwe’s Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry. The criminals tied them up before looting valuables worth approximately US$90,000.

The terrifying ordeal took place at the Coventrys’ Glen Lorne residence, where two armed men broke in and bound the elderly couple’s legs with shoelaces. The robbers then ransacked the house, making off with US$15,000 in cash, jewellery valued at US$60,000, three hair dryers, Olympic apparel, travel bags, hearing aids worth US$5,000, and three hunting firearms.

Law enforcement officials have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident. However, this attack comes amid a worrying surge in armed robberies across Zimbabwe, despite intensified police efforts to crack down on such crimes.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, recently assured the public of the force’s commitment to eradicating criminal syndicates. His remarks followed a major bust of an armed robbery gang in Bulawayo.

“We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of all residents. The dismantling of this armed robbery syndicate is a clear demonstration of our determination to tackle crime head-on and bring perpetrators to justice,” said Comm Nyathi.

As cases of violent crime continue to rise, authorities face mounting pressure to implement more effective security measures to protect citizens and their property.
