Top Musicians Gear Up for Spectacular Performances at 45th Uhuru Musical Gala in Gokwe

A star-studded lineup of Zimbabwe’s top musicians is set to light up Gokwe as the country gears up for the 45th Uhuru Musical Gala, scheduled for Nembudziya Government High School. This year’s edition, themed “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030,” promises a night of electrifying performances in celebration of Zimbabwean independence and cultural pride.

Midlands-born stars Admire “Chief Hwenje” Sibanda and Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo will lead the local charge, performing in front of their home crowd. Peter Moyo, son of the late sungura legend Tongai Moyo, expressed deep pride in returning to Gokwe for this national celebration.

“It feels good to perform in my home area, where I have a strong connection to my roots,” he said. “This is not just another gig — it’s a moment to honour my people and my country.”

Chief Hwenje, known for his energetic stage presence at national events, echoed the excitement. “It’s going to be an epic night for me and my crew. I thank the organisers for decentralising national events. For many in Gokwe, this will be their first time experiencing top-tier entertainment live,” he said.

The gala will run from 6pm to 6am, promising non-stop music and entertainment. Among those set to perform are Dendera king Sulumani Chimbetu, Sandra Ndebele, Simon Mutambi, Tendai Dembo, Clement Magwaza, DT Bio Mudimba, Shantel Sithole, Andy Muridzo, Mark Ngwazi, the Mbare Chimurenga Choir, Jah Signal, and gospel powerhouse Argatha Murudzwa.

Sandra Ndebele, fondly known as Sandy, who last performed in Gokwe over a decade ago, is eager for her return. “Gokwe holds a special place in my heart. I’m ready to give a performance to remember,” she said.

For many artists, the gala is more than a concert — it’s a platform to connect with fans in underrepresented areas. Murudzwa, performing in Gokwe for the first time, expressed her anticipation. “There are so many stories about Gokwe on social media. I can’t wait to be there to praise the Lord through song and dance,” she said.

Sulumani Chimbetu’s camp also assured fans of a top-notch show. “We are going there to show them what we are made of. It’s always great to perform at national events and offer something fresh,” said his manager, Solo Chimbetu.

Music lovers will be spoilt for choice — sungura fans will enjoy sets from Mutambi, Magwaza, Mudimba, and Ngwazi, while Dendera enthusiasts will be treated to Sulu’s timeless hits. Kanindo fans can look forward to a lively performance from Shantel Sithole, and Sasha Amadhube will represent traditional mbira music.

Ngwazi, riding on a wave of popularity, is set to thrill fans backed by his vibrant Njanja Express band. Meanwhile, Tendai Dembo, known for his consistency and crowd-pleasing Barura Express, will aim to live up to his family legacy.

The gala also features crowd favourites Andy Muridzo and dancehall star Jah Master, known for captivating performances that blend energy with emotion.

With such a diverse and exciting lineup, the 45th Uhuru Gala is set to be a grand celebration of Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage, musical talent, and the enduring spirit of unity. As the nation commemorates its independence, Gokwe will be at the heart of the festivities — dancing, singing, and celebrating Zimbabwe at 45.
