Farayi Chabvamuperu Van Den Bogaert Shines with Silver at Belgian Track and Field Championships

Zimbabwean-born javelin thrower Farayi Chabvamuperu Van Den Bogaert continued his rise in European athletics with a standout performance at the PK Alle Categorieën Antwerpen – Dag Track and Field Championships, held in Belgium. Representing OLSE AC, Farayi clinched silver with a season’s best throw of 53.04 meters, marking a strong return from a recent injury setback.
The podium saw Farayi place second behind Nils Utens of Willebroek-Boom, who secured gold with a throw of 55.70 meters, while Koen Eelen of ACHL rounded out the top three with a personal best of 51.16 meters.
Speaking after the competition, Farayi expressed satisfaction with his performance and optimism for the season ahead.
“It was a good start after trailing with injury, but now it’s well,” he told Zim Now. “During my warm-up I was hitting the 58m point and the furthest was a no-throw, but yeah, we are qualified for the Belgium European Athletics Championships Track and Field which is in two weeks.”
The event featured a competitive field, with other notable performances from Senne Van Gelder (49.47m), Sander Henderickx (43.38m), and Rens De Smedt (40.63m), making Farayi’s silver medal all the more impressive.
Now based in Belgium, Farayi has steadily built a name for himself in European athletics circuits. His qualification for the Belgium European Athletics Championships is a significant milestone in his comeback journey. With growing confidence and momentum, he now aims to break the 58-meter barrier at the continental event.
Farayi’s journey is one of perseverance and resilience. After facing injuries that sidelined him temporarily, the silver medal not only represents a return to form but also signals the potential for greater achievements on the international stage.
As Zimbabwe continues to produce world-class athletes competing abroad, Farayi Van Den Bogaert stands out as a shining example of talent, determination, and national pride.
