Tendai Moyo Joins British Beauty Council Advisory Board, Championing African Innovation on the Global Stage

Zimbabwean-born beauty entrepreneur Tendai Moyo has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the British Beauty Council, a prestigious milestone that solidifies her influence in the international beauty arena and amplifies her role as a trailblazer for African innovation.
Moyo, the founder and CEO of Ruka Hair, joins a dynamic group of new board members that includes industry titans such as Laurence Newman of The Beauty Tech Group, renowned podiatrist Margaret Dabbs OBE, and brand expert Krishna Montgomery. Together, they will help guide the Council’s mission across four key pillars: Policy & Influence, Trade & Export, Investment, Innovation & Technology, and Talent & Careers.
Her appointment reflects not just personal success, but a wider shift toward inclusion and representation in the UK’s multibillion-pound beauty industry.
A vocal advocate for underserved consumers, Moyo has steadily built a reputation for challenging the status quo. Her brand, Ruka Hair, is known for delivering high-quality, science-backed hair products specifically designed for textured hair—an area long overlooked by mainstream beauty companies. In 2024, her efforts earned her a finalist spot in the Black British Business Awards’ Entrepreneur Rising Star category.
Celebrities like Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Tems and tennis icon Serena Williams have embraced her brand, helping propel Ruka Hair onto the global stage.
“As a Zimbabwean raised in the UK with potential customers all over the world, my ambition has always been to improve hair standards globally,” Moyo said. “Having built a strong foundation in the UK, we are looking to bring our award-winning products, sustainability practices and superior quality to African markets.”
Her appointment comes at a time when the British Beauty Council is doubling down on innovation and inclusivity. CEO Millie Kendall OBE praised the new appointments, noting, “As the Council continues to grow, it is vital that we tap into the ever-evolving world of leading beauty professionals to ensure we develop our work in line with the true needs of the sector.”
Moyo’s new position not only strengthens her influence but also provides a broader platform to champion diversity, sustainability, and excellence. It’s another remarkable chapter in a journey defined by purpose, passion, and a powerful sense of identity.
Rooted in the Ubuntu philosophy—I am because we are—Moyo’s leadership continues to empower a new generation of entrepreneurs and beauty consumers seeking products that truly reflect who they are.
Her vision is clear: to redefine beauty standards, elevate African excellence, and help shape a more inclusive future for the industry worldwide.
