Zimbabwe Junior Table Tennis Team Shines with Triple Bronze at Region 5 Youth Games in Namibia

The Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union (ZTTU) has celebrated a proud moment on the continental stage after its Junior National Team clinched three bronze medals at the recent African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games held in Namibia. The achievement marks a significant step forward for the country’s presence in regional table tennis.

The impressive medal haul included one bronze in the Boys Team category and two bronzes in the Mixed Doubles events, showcasing Zimbabwe’s increasing competitiveness and rising standards in the sport. The young athletes demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience throughout the tournament, earning not just medals but also regional recognition.

Led by Head Coach Brian Chamboko and Team Manager Ms. Fungai Tanhara Zinatsa, the squad displayed teamwork, determination, and discipline on and off the court. The medal-winning team featured Naama Boterere, Ruvarashe Charuma, Tatenda Timire, Shallom Makoni, Propheser Mwatsika, and Carrington Nourumba, all of whom contributed to Zimbabwe’s standout performance.

ZTTU President Noah Ferenando praised the young athletes for their dedication and applauded the progress made in developing grassroots talent. “This achievement by our junior players reflects the hard work and commitment we’ve invested in nurturing young talent across the country,” he said. “We are immensely proud of the team’s performance in Namibia, and this success marks just the beginning of a brighter future for Zimbabwean table tennis.”

He also reaffirmed the Union’s mission to support and elevate young athletes while fostering a national culture of excellence and opportunity within the sport.

The ZTTU extended its gratitude to the coaching team, management staff, and all supporters whose collective efforts contributed to the team’s success. The strong showing at the Region 5 Youth Games is not only a moment of national pride but also a testament to the Union’s strategic development programs aimed at building competitive international athletes.

With this milestone, Zimbabwean table tennis continues to gain momentum, and ZTTU remains focused on growing the sport and empowering more young players to rise and represent the nation with distinction.
