Brendan Taylor Set for Sensational Return as Zimbabwe Prepares to Host New Zealand in Test Series

Zimbabwe’s cricketing legend Brendan Taylor is poised to make a remarkable comeback to international cricket when Zimbabwe hosts New Zealand for a two-match Test series at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo next week.
The 39-year-old batter, currently serving a three-and-a-half-year suspension for breaching the ICC’s anti-corruption code, is set to have his ban lifted this Saturday, clearing the way for his return to the national team. According to reliable sources from Zimpapers Sports Hub, Taylor is expected to be considered for selection in the second Test match scheduled from August 7 to 11.
Initially, Taylor had contemplated transitioning into a coaching role after his suspension. However, Zimbabwe Cricket chairperson Tavengwa Mukuhlani and Managing Director Givemore Makoni persuaded him to reconsider, encouraging him to return to active play and lend his experience to the Chevrons on the field.
Brendan Taylor holds a distinguished place in Zimbabwean cricket history. With 9,938 runs across formats, he ranks as the country’s third highest run-scorer, only behind legendary siblings Andy and Grant Flower. Taylor boasts 17 centuries—the most by any Zimbabwean batter.
In the Test arena, Taylor is Zimbabwe’s fourth highest run-scorer, trailing only Andy Flower (4,794 runs), Grant Flower (3,457 runs), and Alistair Campbell (2,858 runs). His Test record features 2,320 runs at an average of 36.25, including six centuries and 12 half-centuries. His six centuries place him joint second in Zimbabwe’s red-ball cricket history.
Taylor’s return promises to bolster Zimbabwe’s batting lineup against a formidable New Zealand side. His wealth of experience and technical prowess will be invaluable in the challenging conditions expected at Queens Sports Club.
As anticipation builds ahead of the series, fans and cricket enthusiasts will be keen to witness whether Brendan Taylor can recapture his best form and inspire the Chevrons to a memorable home series victory.
