General Lesley Returns to Bulawayo Theatre with Powerful Comedy Show “Hole of Shame”

Bulawayo-based comedian General Lesley made a strong comeback on Saturday with his one-man comedy production, Hole of Shame. The show combined sharp humour with deep social commentary, focusing on the struggles faced by the boy child in modern society.
The production, staged for the second time at the Bulawayo Theatre, highlighted how boys are often raised without emotional support. General Lesley exposed how unresolved childhood traumas shape boys into misunderstood men. The performance resonated with the audience, earning praise for its mix of laughter and honesty.
“This show is an advocacy for the boy child,” General Lesley told NewsDay Life & Style. “It explores how a boy is raised, the struggles he faces, and how bullying, emotional suppression, and neglect affect him as he grows. Eventually, these unresolved traumas lead society to label him a ‘dog’.”
Using sharp wit, Lesley compared growing up as a boy to the life of a dog. “Dogs are not allowed to cry but to bark—just like men,” he said. “They are expected to sleep outside in the cold, protecting the family, yet only eat leftovers.”
Hole of Shame is General Lesley’s third one-man production and the second of 2025. The first performance in July focused on Zimbabwe’s education system and received positive feedback, including praise from Eveline High School deputy head Thabani Hillary Moyo.
Although Lesley has not yet achieved his goal of filling the Bulawayo Theatre, he remains determined. “The dream is still to fill up the Bulawayo Theatre. I will keep engaging until that happens,” he said. “But those who attended had a great time. My inbox has been flooded with positive feedback—people laughed, but they also took something meaningful home.”
Lesley promised more excitement for his upcoming show on August 23 at the Large City Hall. “This is a brand-new General Lesley,” he said. “Come August, Bulawayo will know they have a general in comedy. Laughter is guaranteed.”
General Lesley’s Hole of Shame delivers laughter with a message. It shines a light on the emotional challenges boys face, urging society to rethink how it supports its young men. His blend of comedy and social awareness makes the show a standout in Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene.
