UZ Wildcats Handball Club to Represent Zimbabwe in Zambia Friendly

The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Wildcats Handball Club will represent Zimbabwe in a two-day international friendly series against Zambia this weekend. The matches are scheduled at the OYDC Sports Centre in Lusaka.
As four-time Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (ZUSA) champions, the UZ Wildcats bring experience and a winning pedigree to the fixtures. The squad will be strengthened with additional players selected from Zimbabwe’s top clubs, enhancing depth and skill for the challenge.
Coach Valentine Masaiti expressed excitement about the assignment. “We are honoured to be selected by the Zimbabwe Handball Federation to represent the country against the Zambian National Handball team. We are seizing this massive opportunity with both hands as it will expose our players and officials to international-quality handball,” he said.
The team has called up 22 players, from which the final 16 will be selected for the trip. Masaiti added, “Even with our limited preparation time for this match, dubbed the ‘Battle of the Zambezi’, we will silence our noisy neighbours by showcasing the skills and talent that have made us a formidable force in Zimbabwean handball. In this process, we will either win or learn.”
The friendly series also forms part of Zambia’s preparations for their upcoming trip to Algeria later this year. The UZ Wildcats’ experience and competitive edge are expected to provide a stern test for the Zambian side, offering both teams valuable exposure and development ahead of future competitions.
