DJ Eugy Pays Tribute to Late Mentor Babongile Sikhonjwa

The Zimbabwean entertainment industry is mourning the loss of Babongile Sikhonjwa, a respected figure whose life was cut short at the age of 49. Sikhonjwa, known for his lively personality and sharp humour, died on September 21 at United Bulawayo Hospitals after complaining of breathing complications. His passing has left a deep void, especially for those he mentored, including DJ Eugy.

In an emotional tribute, DJ Eugy described Sikhonjwa not only as a mentor but also as a father figure. “You were like my father,” he said, highlighting the depth of their bond. This relationship went beyond the decks and dancefloors, shaping Eugy’s career and personal life in profound ways.

“I have been dreading to talk about my relationship with him. Sikhonjwa is the last person I thought would ever leave this earth. He is the person who created DJ Eugy and opened many doors for me,” Eugy said.

The mentorship Sikhonjwa provided was practical and impactful. DJ Eugy recalled the countless weddings and corporate events they performed at together, moments that cemented Sikhonjwa’s reputation as an entertainer who could energize any gathering. “Together, we rocked plenty of weddings, and corporate events. He was my mentor, as he taught me all the ropes in this industry I needed to learn. I will miss our escapades, lunch and dinner dates. I will forever miss him,” Eugy shared.

These memories reflect more than shared experiences; they represent Sikhonjwa’s lasting influence on a younger generation of entertainers. His ability to blend humour, energy, and professionalism left a mark that will outlive him.

For DJ Eugy, the bond was a mix of brotherhood and mentorship. While the entertainment industry can often feel competitive and isolating, Sikhonjwa stood as a guiding light, willing to nurture and uplift. It is this spirit of generosity and support that Eugy says he will carry forward.

The memories of those high-energy events now serve as a tribute to Sikhonjwa’s life and work. His legacy continues through the people he mentored and the countless audiences he entertained. For DJ Eugy, that legacy is deeply personal, a reminder of the man who believed in him and gave him the tools to thrive in an industry that often demands resilience and guidance.

Babongile Sikhonjwa may be gone, but the music, laughter, and mentorship he shared live on through those who had the privilege to know him.
