Massie Bondamakara Honours Living Legends in Mudzi

Television personality Massie Bondamakara hosted a special event in Mudzi on Thursday night to recognise and celebrate living legends from her rural home. The gathering highlighted individuals who have made significant contributions to community development, from infrastructure projects to social initiatives aimed at uplifting the underprivileged. Bondamakara emphasised the importance of celebrating these achievements while those who made them are still alive. “We must celebrate those who have bettered our communities before it’s too late,” she said, underscoring the purpose of the event.
The function recognised notable accomplishments including the construction of bridges, clinics, and hotels, alongside initiatives that created employment opportunities and improved local livelihoods. Distinguished guests included former Deputy Minister of Mines Magna Mudyiwa, Mudzi West Member of Parliament Knowledge Kaitano, gospel musicians Charles Charamba and Olivia Charamba, Bishop Farai Katsande, athlete Kennias Tembo, and the Katonha twins, Farai and Tendai. PK Chiunye, known for attracting foreign tourists to Mudzi with his talking drums, was also in attendance, adding to the event’s prominence.
Local artists contributed to the event’s vibrancy, while posthumous recognition was given to Sekuru Hodzi, a former local leader. Bondamakara explained that the initiative celebrates both living legends and those who have passed, starting with Mudzi District. She reflected on her personal journey, recalling the early challenges and obstacles she faced. “The early days were far from glamorous. They demanded persistence, resilience and belief, even when success seemed unattainable,” she said, highlighting the dedication required to achieve her current platform.
The event also marked the growth of her platform, “The Living Legends Show” on ZBC TV, which documents Zimbabwean achievements and celebrates the nation’s human resources. Bondamakara emphasised that greatness is cultivated through perseverance, resilience, and selfless service. “Today stands as a testament that perseverance pays off. Greatness is not merely an accident, it’s cultivated over time,” she said, acknowledging the support from those who believe in her initiative.
Bondamakara plans to expand the initiative to other districts across Zimbabwe. Her goal is to ensure that local heroes are recognised, their contributions remembered, and communities inspired to value service and dedication. By highlighting these stories, she aims to create a culture where achievements in community development are celebrated nationwide, inspiring future generations to serve with commitment and purpose.
