Gospel Group Omega Circle Reflects on Loss and Trust in God with New EP

South African gospel group Omega Circle has released a moving new EP titled “Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother,” a deeply personal project born from reflection, faith, and the enduring bond between a child and a mother.
The EP is inspired by the songwriter’s journey through loss. Twenty years have passed since his mother’s death, a reality that became the spark for this collection of worship songs. “Losing a mother is perhaps one of the hardest experiences in life,” he explains. “It shakes your foundation and can make you question the world around you. Yet in that emptiness, I found myself turning to God, trusting Him to carry me through.”
At the heart of the EP is the theme of trust, reflected in the phrase “Ndithembe kuwe,” meaning “I trust in You.” These words echo throughout the songs, shaping the emotional and spiritual journey of the project.
The idea for the EP came unexpectedly. One February morning, feeling uninspired and distant from music, the songwriter realized the year marked 20 years without his mother. That moment ignited a wave of creativity, leading him to write songs he imagines he and his mother would have sung together — perhaps even with the grandchildren she never met.
The songs came in different ways: some written in the quiet hours before dawn, others in brief, reflective moments throughout the day. Every track on the EP was written specifically for this project, with the exception of a reimagined version of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika, which opens the collection with a sense of reverence and continuity.
“This EP is a tribute to the woman who taught me how to love myself and how to love God,” the group says. “Worship music becomes a bridge, connecting us to the warmth, love, and faith we can no longer experience in the physical world.”
“Worship Songs I Could Have Sang With My Mother” offers listeners a space for reflection, healing, and worship, turning grief into praise and memory into music.
