Joy as Northern Region Division One League returns

By Geronimo News

Following months of inactivity, lower division clubs will finally return to the stadia after the Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) yesterday (Monday) released fixtures for the first half of the 2021/22 season.

The news has come as a welcome development for the clubs whose hope for a better tomorrow was lost especially after an eventful week in the Zimbabwean football landscape.

The Northern Region Division One League which comprises of 18 teams is set to kick off on the weekend of 27 and 28 November 2021 with 9 games lined up across the country with the first half set to end on the weekend of 29 and 30 January 2022.

However, the move by the NRSL is expected to cascade to other regions namely Eastern, Central and Southern who too have not witnessed any football since the onset of the series of COVID-19 lockdowns almost two years ago.

Given the hunger that the teams had to return to the game the second-tier football league is expected to bring fireworks across the country as clubs will be fighting for promotion into the Premier League for the 2022/23 season.

Highly ambitious club Simba Bhora of Shamva, Ngezi Platinum Stars Under 19, Chegutu Pirates, Harare City Cubs and Golden Eagles to mention a few are some of the clubs to look out for during this campaign.

Meanwhile, the NRSL has also partnered Axis Solution who are going to bankroll an eight-team knock-out tournament in a bid to increase competition among players.

The Northern Region Division One League is sponsored by Ruyamuro Service Stations.
