What does submission to your husband mean? Well, a picture doing the rounds son social media has vividly given us the true meaning. Whilst Bible scholars and preachers have pegged submission by a woman to her husband as being the cornerstone of every marriage, no definitive explanation has been proffered. An image of a man standing on a rock and placing his foot on his wife’s head has become a topical subject in Zim. One person commented that this is submission to a husband in its true from much to the annoyance of women who said this was taking it to the extremes.

Women, particularly in the African society have had to endure all sorts of humiliating and degrading treatment hidden under the guise of submission. Worse still when religion kicks in and women are told to desist from standing up to their spouses. They simply have to listen and obey. Some women have been abused,raped and emotionally scarred and have never spoken out for fear of being labelled unsubmissive to their husbands.

While the image may be taken lightly and jokes created about it, it depicts the sad reality of the state of affairs of marriages in most households. Women can be denigrated in the name of submission. The picture gives us a clearer vision of what should be done in society to curb the scourge of abuse
