Zim Student Gets U.S. Scholarship for Innovative Solutions
Global shaper and writer Tanaka Chingonzo earned a scholarship to study at the United States. The young man will be travelling to the USA in August for four years at the College of Wooster in Ohios.
18 year old Tanaka Chingonzoh, first visited the United States after accompanying his brother, Mandela Washington Fellowship alumnus Takunda Chingonzoh, to an entrepreneurship event. He attended the 2014 Startup weekend which ignited his need to learn more about technology and how to solve problems.
He then started Combicode which has re-branded to Quick Online Reference. Tanaka was student CEO of Verity Holdings ZRP High School Junior Achievement Zimbabwe. The company was established by students with support from school authorities to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit among its students. From the company, initiatives were created that won several accolades including an award at the Sanganai- Hlanganani international expo and EMA Environmental competitions.
Tanaka attended Watson University and managed to attend the Global Engagement Summit held at Northwestern University. He also attended the conference on World Affairs at the University of Colorado-Boulder, interning at Spark Boulder- a co-working space.
He has worked as an intern with the EducationUSA Advising Center at the Embassy’s Eastgate offices and is the founder of Apply.co.zw and manages his own- tanaka.co.zw.
