Sugar price increased.

In a recent statement by the Zimbabwean largest sugar producing company Tongaat hullet, there has been an increase in the price of sugar by nearly 100%.

Sugar has been scarce for the past few days and most people have had to resort to buying it on the black market. An official statement issued yesterday by the sugar company confirmed fears of a price hikes in the basic commodity.

According to the statement released the recommended retail selling price for a 2kg packet of brown sugar is now 9.98 rtgs dollars from 5rtgs dollars and a 2kg packet of white sugar is now 10.44 rtgs dollars.

The recent increase has been met with out most shock and disgust with most people alleging that they can no longer afford to buy it. Citizens have been battling price hikes since the beginning of the year. Items such as cooking oil, rice, mealie meal and meat are being sold at exhorbitant prices. Other things like fuel and furniture have become expensive for most people.

Sugar is a staple in most households and is mainly used for breakfast.
