FC Platinum roasts the Gamecock

By Geronimo News

Defending champions FC Platinum’s title defense is taking shape after the Zvishavane giants registered their second win of the season at the weekend.

The platinum miners edged Chicken Inn 2-1 at Mandava Stadium in a pulsating encounter cementing their position at the top of the table with 6 points.

Chicken Inn who won 1-0 in their season opener against newcomers Craneborne Bullets at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo two weeks ago were condemned to their first defeat of this campaign when the reigning champions pounced on them in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Although it was a balanced affair FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza’s tactical acumen to get quick goals paid off as his troops stood firm to safeguard their lead till the end.

In-form midfielder Innocent Mucheneka thrust Kugona Kunenge Kudada into the lead in the 15th minute before Donald Teguru doubled the lead 10 minutes later as the hosts started to enjoy the game a bit more than their opponents who were now under pressure.

In their quest to search for a goal, grafter Brian Muza pulled one back for the visitors on the stroke of halftime after nodding home a Munashe Pini inviting cross as the game went to halftime with FC Platinum leading.

The second half saw the Gamecocks trying by all means possible to find an equaliser but Mapeza’s boys showed some measure of resistance as they bagged the three points in what was a balanced affair at the mining town.
