Mushekwi up for Golden Boot award

Former Caps United bustling forward Nyasha Mushekwi has moved within a goal of the league’s leading goal scorer setting the tone for what will be an interesting race for the Chinese Super League Golden Boot award.

The Zimbabwean continues to defy age and at 36 he is still showcasing his impressive goal scoring instincts for Zhejiang Professional with 14 goals under his belt thus far.

Only teammate Leonardo Nascimento Lopes de Souza who lead the charts has scored one more goal than Mushekwi and  Wu Lei of log leaders Shanghai Port, who are both tied on the same number of goals.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker who is undoubtedly one of the most consistent strikers in the Chinese Super League having notched double figures for the last three seasons, last scored in his side’s comprehensive 3-0 win over his former side Dalian Pro last week before the league took a brief hiatus.

And with six rounds of fixtures remaining, vis-à-vis his goal scoring prowess thus far, the former Warriors gangly striker is tipped to add onto his tally of goals and help Zhejiang Professional to a top-three finish which will ultimately earn them a coveted Asian Champions League qualifier spot.

Currently, Zhejiang FC lie fifth on the Chinese Super League standings with 39 points on their tally, just three adrift points of third placed Shanghai Shenhua and exactly 13 behind log leaders, and title favourites Shanghai Port.

Be that as it may, Mushekwi is now an invaluable asset for Zhejiang Professional after becoming the club’s all-time top scorer with 69 goals in 119 appearances.

Meanwhile, Zhejiang FC returns to action on September 15 when they travel to Workers Stadium for a date with Beijing Guoan.
