7 Basic Steps for Cholera Prevention
The scourge of Cholera has been prevalent in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe recently announced a cholera outbreak with some reported cases. Cholera is an acute enteric infection caused by the ingestion of bacterium Vibrio cholerae present in faecally contaminated water or food. Cholera is often caused by insufficient access to safe water and proper sanitation. Cholera and kills about 1% of its victims by causing electrolyte imbalances and dehydration through severe vomiting and diarrhoea. There are ways to prevent the spread of cholera. 1. Drink and use safe water

Wash your hands often with soap and safe water.
3. Maintain good sanitation
Clean and flush toilets after every use. If you are in the rural areas, use latrines or bury your feaces and do not defecate in any body of water.
4. Cook food well
Cook food well especially seafood, pork and chicken. Cover food all the time, and eat it whilst hot. Wash and peel fruits and vegetables.
5. Clean up safely
Male sure that your houaehold is clean. Focus mainly on the kitchen, bathroom and wash clothes regularly.
6. Know the signs and symptoms of Cholera.
The common symptoms try are diarrhoea and vomiting clear-like fluids. Other symptoms include muscle cramping and weakness. If you find yourself with these symptoms then go seek treatment.
7. Get treatment
Getting treatment will save your life and others as well. Cholera cases are quarantined and put on treatment. Patients are given Cholera vaccines which often take weeks to work.
