Air Zimbabwe Launches Daily Harare–Mutare Flights Ahead of Sanganai/Hlanganani Expo

Air Zimbabwe has announced daily return flights between Harare and Mutare from September 8 to 14, 2025. The initiative aims to boost domestic connectivity and support the tourism sector ahead of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo in Mutare.
The new service forms part of Air Zimbabwe’s wider turnaround strategy, focused on expanding its route network and improving access to key tourist destinations across the country. The temporary route will provide exhibitors, delegates, and visitors with a convenient travel option to attend the expo and explore the scenic Eastern Highlands.
Air Zimbabwe’s chief executive officer, Edmund Makona, described the flights as a pilot project to assess demand. “We are testing the market, understanding demand and exploring the long-term viability of this route. If the demand is there, Air Zimbabwe will be ready to make it a permanent feature of our network,” he said.
The schedule has been designed to offer seamless connections between Victoria Falls, Harare, and Mutare, promoting multi-destination tourism within Zimbabwe. Travellers from Mutare will also benefit from easy regional and international connections via Harare.
Makona emphasised the airline’s role in national development. “Air Zimbabwe is more than an airline — we are a bridge that connects people, cultures, and opportunities. These Harare–Mutare flights demonstrate our commitment to growth, our belief in Zimbabwe’s tourism potential, and our determination to keep the nation flying high,” he said.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry’s efforts to revitalise the sector and showcase Zimbabwe’s diverse attractions. Hosting the Sanganai/Hlanganani Expo in Manicaland provides an opportunity to highlight the region’s natural beauty and economic potential.
Air Zimbabwe has partnered with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, Airports Company of Zimbabwe, National Handling Services, and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority to ensure the smooth operation of the flights. These collaborations have provided the necessary infrastructure and support services.
For customer convenience, the airline has also partnered with PayNow, enabling passengers to pay for tickets online and secure travel arrangements easily from any location.
The Harare–Mutare route marks a significant step in Air Zimbabwe’s efforts to re-establish itself as a key enabler of tourism and economic growth. The availability of direct flights is expected to improve accessibility for international visitors and enhance the overall experience of attending the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo.
