African Son Rising: Zimbabwe’s Emerging Talent Making Waves

Trycolin Nyahunzvi, professionally known as African Son, is steadily gaining recognition in Zimbabwe’s music scene. Originally from Murewa and now based in Mabvuku-New Tafara, he has spent the past four years building a name for himself with dedication and strategic collaborations.
“I started my musical journey from a place of passion and purpose,” African Son said. “I grew up in Murewa, went to Maruta Primary and later Chemhondoro High School. Music has always been part of me, and now I’m fully committed to taking it to the next level.”
African Son has worked with several notable Zimbabwean artists. He collaborated with Uncle Epaton on “Zvinokonerwa Nei,” Kabhida on “Kumberi,” and Ruvarashe on “Ndoda Iwewe.” His sound combines raw street energy with heartfelt storytelling, drawing influence from artists like Blot and support from industry figure Sir Blitz.
Currently, he works closely with producers Kaptain Ka Jonz and Rass Niggah. African Son remains independent but is actively seeking sponsorship and management to expand his reach. “I’m not signed to any record label yet, and that has its challenges. Financially it can be tough, but I’m determined to keep pushing and to work with more producers who believe in my vision,” he said.
His latest single, “Mazuvano,” has gained traction on TikTok. Dance challenges and lip-sync videos are spreading the track, helping African Son reach audiences beyond his local community. This digital momentum demonstrates the appeal of his music to a wider audience.
African Son emphasizes the purpose behind his music. “I want my music to inspire young people, to tell their stories, and to show them that no matter where you come from, you can still dream big,” he said.
With consistent output and growing online engagement, African Son is positioning himself as a significant voice in Zimbabwean music. His story highlights the potential for independent artists to thrive through talent, persistence, and strategic collaborations.
