Government and Stakeholders to Promote Aquaculture in Mudzi District
In a significant move to promote aquaculture as a sustainable and profitable venture, the Government, along with various stakeholders, will converge at Mr. Innocent Kazanhi’s homestead in Mudzi District. This initiative aims to support Zimbabwean farmers by promoting fish farming as a viable means of improving food security and boosting rural economies.
Mr. Mark Tsabora, the District Agricultural Extension Officer, emphasized that the Government is committed to the growth of the aquaculture industry as part of its broader vision for economic transformation. “This initiative aligns with the Government’s vision of transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. By promoting fish farming, we can improve food security, create jobs, and boost rural economies,” Tsabora explained.
The Government is focused on helping farmers adopt sustainable farming practices to increase productivity, particularly by improving access to water and other essential resources. By diversifying their income sources and reducing dependence on rain-fed agriculture, farmers can build resilience to climate change.
As Zimbabwe grapples with the effects of climate change, aquaculture is seen as a promising solution. It offers an opportunity for farmers to increase food production while creating sustainable livelihoods, especially in areas where traditional farming methods are becoming less reliable. With the support of stakeholders, including agricultural experts and industry leaders, the Government aims to encourage the adoption of fish farming across the country, ensuring that it becomes a key contributor to Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector in the coming years.
