The List Awards Return to Celebrate Unsung Heroes in Zimbabwe and Across Africa

The second edition of The List Awards is set to take place on November 7 in Harare, shining a spotlight on the selfless changemakers whose work often goes unnoticed but profoundly impacts communities in Zimbabwe and across the African continent. The awards aim to honour individuals who dedicate their lives to uplifting others, without seeking recognition or personal gain.

Spearheaded by Identities Media, the initiative officially launched its nomination process on Tuesday, inviting the public to submit names of local and regional heroes in 13 distinct categories. The nomination window will remain open until August 17, offering communities a chance to celebrate those making a difference at the grassroots level and beyond.

Speaking at the launch, Philani Nyatsanza, chairperson of the awards board, said this year’s edition is poised to surpass expectations following the success of the inaugural event. “I am proud to affirm that this year’s edition will be bigger, better and even more impactful than our inaugural event. The overwhelming response to the first edition inspired us to expand our vision, deepen our reach and elevate our commitment to honoring Zimbabwe’s and Africa’s unsung heroes,” he told journalists.

Nyatsanza revealed that winners and finalists will be treated to a night of prestige and celebration where their stories will be presented in grand style. More than just an awards ceremony, The List Awards will also introduce several days of workshops in Harare aimed at empowering finalists and winners. These sessions are designed to foster continued learning, professional growth, and the capacity to drive deeper impact in their communities.

According to organizers, the awards are built around a core vision of dignity and authenticity, breaking away from commercialised recognition platforms to truly honour those who serve quietly but powerfully. “The List Awards were founded to restore dignity to the awards space by recognizing those who work selflessly and tirelessly to uplift our communities. Heroes who do not seek the spotlight but whose actions transform lives,” Nyatsanza added.

Identities Media founder and awards convener Nyaradzo Mashayamombe echoed the sentiment, stating, “The awards were created to honour the extraordinary individuals who often work without recognition but whose contributions are essential to building a more equitable and resilient society.”

As preparations build toward the November event, The List Awards are poised to redefine how excellence is celebrated—by turning the spotlight on those who change lives through dedication, compassion, and service.
