Zimbabwe and Rwanda Strengthen Ties Ahead of Joint Permanent Commission Meeting

Zimbabwe and Rwanda have moved to deepen bilateral relations following high-level engagements in Kigali ahead of the 3rd Session of the Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation Ministerial Meeting set for August 6.

The Zimbabwean delegation, led by Chief Director of Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Pearson Chigiji, took part in preparatory talks to review existing agreements and identify new areas of collaboration.

“Zimbabwe is committed to transforming these engagements into tangible outcomes. We commend the hospitality extended by the Government of Rwanda,” said Chigiji.

Rwanda’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Clementine Mukeka, reaffirmed Kigali’s commitment to the partnership. “Rwanda values its cooperation with Zimbabwe. We are ready to expand collaboration in trade, agriculture, education, and health,” she said.

The discussions reviewed progress on previously signed agreements and examined draft Memoranda of Understanding in energy, science and technology, health, education, and investment promotion.

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amon Murwira, arrived in Kigali to lead the delegation in the ministerial segment. “This visit is a demonstration of Zimbabwe’s unwavering dedication to advancing mutual cooperation and fostering regional integration,” said Murwira.

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Charity Manyeruke, described the talks as productive and aligned with national development priorities.

The ministerial meeting is expected to conclude with the signing of new agreements aimed at enhancing Zimbabwe-Rwanda relations and promoting sustainable development.
