30 Zimbabwean Young Leaders Selected For Mandela Fellowship Program In The US

From only four hundred and seventy African selected to attend a six week Mandela Washington Fellowship program in June, thirty of them are Zimbabweans. The young leaders will attend the program at one of the twenty US prestigious universities followed by a conference hosted by the US President Barack Obama.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of the President’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and embodies President Obama’s commitment to invest in the future of Africa.

The thirty participants are leaders of civil and business societies and they were screened and interviewed by the US embassy to Zimbabwe. Last year saw one of the Zimbabwean participant Takudzwa Chingodzoh interview President Obama on their trip in Washington DC.

The US ambassador to Zimbabwe David Bruce Wharton congratulated the group saying they were amongst the most talented and inspiring young people in the country. “I am optimistic about the future of Zimbabwe and through these young Zimbabweans i see the country proper”.

Through the initiative the young leaders will go through an intensive executive leadership training, networking and skill building.
