Bulawayo Fashion Show Returns with “Diversity through Threads”

Bulawayo is preparing for a vibrant celebration of style as the second edition of the Bulawayo Fashion Show takes place on December 13 from midday to 8pm in Burnside. This year’s theme, Diversity through Threads, promises a showcase of creativity, inclusion, and bold expression.

The show is hosted by Kotaire, the brand founded by Thando Ngwenya, who also created the Bulawayo Fashion Show. Ngwenya says the event is more than a runway; it is a movement for representation and access. “We are back by popular demand. The first show in December 2023 received an overwhelming response,” he said. “This edition gives space to both upcoming and established designers, especially those who don’t always get opportunities in tight-knit fashion circles.”

Diversity through Threads reflects the philosophy that every stitch and fabric tells a story. Ngwenya explained, “We want people to experience what these brands stand for, not just see clothes, but feel the purpose behind the designs.” The event combines runway showcases with fashion stalls, allowing attendees to purchase directly from the designers.

While the focus is on Bulawayo creatives, designers from across Zimbabwe are participating. The lineup includes Stolen Pieces, All Smiles, Fake Friends Apparel, Black Apes, SKUCCI World, Designer Jay, Leroy Sam Mapungwana, Everything MW, Juluka, Richard Jeans, FXF Culture, and Believe Apparel. These designers are redefining fashion on their own terms, and the Bulawayo Fashion Show provides a platform to amplify their unique voices.

Ngwenya emphasized that the event blends style with storytelling. Designers will engage directly with the audience, sharing the inspiration behind their collections. “This is not about exclusivity; it is about expression. We accept everyone and anyone. If you’re passionate about fashion, this platform is for you,” he said.

Tickets will be available at the gate. Fashion enthusiasts from across the city and beyond are encouraged to attend and experience the bold and diverse creativity defining Zimbabwean fashion today.
