Bulawayo Set to Host First-Ever Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show

Preparations are underway for the debut edition of the Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show in Bulawayo, with organisers confirming that the summer showcase will take place on October 4. The glamorous event is the brainchild of Tsholotsho-born socialite and entertainer DJ Mapressa, real name Promise Sibanda, and promises to be a celebration of confidence, culture, and style.
Launched in South Africa in June 2022, the fashion extravaganza has quickly grown into a platform that challenges traditional pageant rules. Unlike most competitions, it imposes no restrictions on background, body type, height, weight, or age, giving opportunities to anyone with the confidence and passion to grace the runway.
Speaking from his base in South Africa, DJ Mapressa said bringing the event to Bulawayo was always part of his vision.
“When we started this movement in 2022, we wanted to create a cultural brand that celebrates Zimbabwean identity. Our early events were hosted in South Africa for Zimbabweans in Mzansi, and the response was overwhelming. After seeing the support from our people and the corporate world, we decided to bring the Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show home to Bulawayo for the first summer edition,” he explained.
During their last show in Johannesburg earlier this year, 15 models travelled from Zimbabwe to take part. That enthusiasm convinced the organisers that Zimbabweans were eager for a local edition.
So far, 14 models from Tsholotsho and several from rural Matabeleland have registered for the October event. DJ Mapressa said inclusivity remains a central part of the brand’s mission.
“We want to make sure that no one is left out, especially those who often face barriers in the industry. Winners will walk away with over R10 000 each, and beyond the money, we are creating opportunities for people to step into the spotlight,” he said.
The show will also serve as a platform for creatives across Zimbabwe. Local designers, artists, and performers will be given space to showcase their work without the gatekeeping that often limits opportunities for rural or under-resourced talent.
On the entertainment side, a strong line-up has already been confirmed. Performers include Gog’ Bekezela, Andrea the Vocalist, Mzoe 7, Mr Ungayithi Vuu, MC Moe Shaba, and DT Bio Mudimba, the hit-maker behind Kujata Jata.
“This is not just a fashion showcase. It is also a networking opportunity. We want to empower local creatives and connect them with the business community that is backing this event,” said DJ Mapressa.
Since its inception, the Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show has attracted celebrities and entertainment heavyweights in South Africa. Past editions have featured actors Cebolenkosi Mthembu (Detective Nyawo in Uzalo), Thandeka Dawn King, Maskandi musician Quality Biyela, and entrepreneur Brilliant Ncube.
The reigning Mr and Miss Mapressa Glam are Brian Sibanda and Nobuhle Ndlovu, who were crowned earlier this year. Their presence at the Bulawayo show will mark continuity for a brand that has already established itself as a force in Southern Africa’s showbiz scene.
With inclusivity, cultural pride, and star power at its core, the debut Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show in Bulawayo is shaping up to be one of the standout events of 2025.
