Behind the Harmony: The Inspiring Journey of Joshua Juru, Zimpraise Choir’s Youngest Star

In 2014, a young yet enthusiastic Joshua Juru took his first steps into the spotlight as the youngest member of the renowned Zimpraise Choir, marking a pivotal moment in his musical journey. For Juru, the experience was nothing short of a dream come true.

“I started singing at 12,” Juru reflects. “Auditioning for Zimpraise was a dream realized, as it was one of the most celebrated choirs.”

From a tender age, Juru’s musical journey was nurtured by his rich musical heritage. He honed his craft in church choirs and talent shows, building his voice and passion for music. By the time he auditioned for Zimpraise, his foundation was set, and his passion translated into success.

For nearly a decade, Juru has thrived with the choir. His time with Zimpraise has not only been about performing but also involved event planning and brand strategy, showcasing his versatility. Alongside his work with Zimpraise, he collaborated with prominent artists like Minister Michael Mahendere, Joyous Celebration, and Janet Manyowa, broadening his exposure and expertise in the music industry.

“Being a backing vocalist is an art,” Juru explains. “You must blend seamlessly with every musician’s rhythm and style, becoming a chameleon in your performance.”

Despite his significant accomplishments, Juru faced challenges in his solo career. He recalls the release of his 2020 debut single, ‘Ndimi Ishe,’ which did not achieve the anticipated success. However, Juru views this as a valuable learning experience, and with renewed determination, he plans to re-enter the solo scene.

Currently residing in the United Kingdom, Juru continues to pursue his passion for music while studying Humanities and Sciences, a field he began exploring in his home country. “I still perform locally and internationally, which allows me to showcase my talents on various platforms,” he says.

Beyond just an instrument, Juru’s voice is a cherished treasure, and he treats it as such, emphasizing the importance of proper care. “I nurture my voice by resting, warming up, and staying healthy,” he explains.

When asked whether he prefers being a lead singer or staying in his role as a backing vocalist, Juru takes a thoughtful pause. Although he once dreamed of being a lead vocalist, he now finds joy in his current position. It allows him to explore his other interests, such as acting, producing, and writing.

Juru’s journey sheds light on the often-overlooked yet crucial role of backing vocalists in the music industry. These artists, though frequently working behind the scenes, create the harmony that elevates music to new heights. For Juru, the road less traveled has been one of growth, resilience, and unwavering passion for his craft.
