Bulawayo-born actor Lonesome Kudzaishe Tapiwa is taking Zimbabwean talent to the international stage after being selected to participate in the prestigious Biennale College Teatro 2026 in Venice, Italy. His achievement marks an important milestone not only in his personal acting career but also for Zimbabwe’s growing presence in the global performing arts industry. The four-week intensive acting programme brought together some of the world’s most promising young performers, providing them with an opportunity to learn from internationally respected theatre professionals. Being chosen from a highly competitive international applicant pool made Tapiwa’s selection particularly significant. The programme offered participants an intensive learning environment where they could develop their acting skills while exchanging ideas with fellow performers from different cultural backgrounds. Before receiving international recognition, Tapiwa had already established himself within Zimbabwe’s theatre and film industry. He is known for his performances in theatre productions such as The Taking and Fragile, where he demonstrated his versatility as a stage actor. He also gained wider recognition for portraying Thabo in the YouTube drama series Amacala, produced by his mentor Raisedon Baya.
