Zimbabwean hip-hop sensation Calvin Mangena, affectionately known as the Ndebele Prince, has once again demonstrated why he is among the country’s top musicians. His latest single, Ngiyavuma, featuring the talented Chillmaster, has taken the airwaves by storm, amassing nearly 40,000 views on Yourself within just 24 hours of its release.

Speaking exclusively to NewsDay Live, Mangena opened up about the inspiration behind the song, revealing a deeply personal story. “The time I came up with the song, I was courting a lady, and every time I saw her, I’d get tongue-tied and run out of words,” he shared candidly. “So, I wrote it down and took it to Eternity Studio, where I collaborated with Talics, Golden Fingers, and Leeroy.”

The track’s creation was marked by seamless collaboration, especially when Chillmaster joined the project. Mangena recalled, “I remembered that he had promised me a verse in my next work, so I sent him what we had cooked. The following day, he had done his part, and it was magic.”

Beyond the infectious beats and heartfelt lyrics, the music video for Ngiyavuma showcases the stunning natural beauty of Vumba in Mutare. This choice of location not only highlights Zimbabwe’s scenic landscapes but also promotes local tourism in the eastern highlands. “We spent three days in the eastern highlands, and it was an amazing experience, at a place called Vumba in Mutare,” Mangena said, adding, “The energy was fresh, and we learned a lot from each other. I’m giving a very special shout out to everyone who made it happen.”
