Holy Ten Clashes with Wicknell Chivayo Over Car Gift and Political Support
Rapper Holy Ten and controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo have found themselves at the center of a heated feud, with the musician accusing Chivayo of insulting him after the mogul offered to buy him a luxury vehicle. The tension began when Chivayo publicly stated that he had intended to gift Holy Ten a top-of-the-line GLE SUV, allegedly as a reward for his support of the ruling Zanu PF party during the last Zimbabwean elections. However, Holy Ten was quick to voice his displeasure, expressing that he felt insulted by the offer, and dismissed it as an attempt to “buy him off.”
The rift between the two escalated in October when Holy Ten criticized Chivayo’s donation of an expensive vehicle to Daisy Mtukudzi, the widow of the late music legend Oliver Mtukudzi. Daisy had been embroiled in controversy after her stepdaughters, Selmor and Sandra, accused her of abuse, a situation that only added fuel to the fire when Chivayo intervened. The rapper deemed this act an unwarranted interference in personal matters, which led to a public fallout between the two.
In a social media exchange, Wicknell responded to Holy Ten’s inquiry about why he had unfollowed him by explaining that the rapper’s comments regarding Daisy Mtukudzi’s gift had disappointed him. He stated that he had once had “a lot of respect and love” for Holy Ten and even considered gifting him a GLE for his support of the president. However, he felt disrespected by Holy Ten’s remarks, which he labeled as “baseless and nonsensical.”
In his rebuttal, Holy Ten clarified that while he indeed supported President Emmerson Mnangagwa, he did not do so with the expectation of receiving any material rewards, such as the promised GLE. He expressed that the suggestion was insulting and emphasized that his political support was driven by patriotism, not the prospect of a gift. The rapper further insisted that if someone were to buy him a car, it should be something more fitting, like a G-Wagon, rather than a mere GLE.
The exchange sheds light on the complex dynamics at play between public figures, politics, and material wealth. While Chivayo’s lavish generosity has attracted both admiration and criticism, Holy Ten’s response underlines a broader sentiment of staying true to personal values and integrity, even when faced with offers that seem to come with strings attached.
As the feud continues, it remains to be seen whether it will escalate further or if the two will reconcile, but for now, it has certainly added another chapter to the already tumultuous relationship between Zimbabwe’s celebrity culture and the politics of wealth.
