Mbongeni Ignatius Set to Shine at Shoko Festival

Bulawayo’s comedic talent Mbongeni Ignatius is preparing for his debut performance at Zimbabwe’s premier urban culture event, the Shoko Festival, on September 25. He will appear on the flagship stage of Shoko Comedy Night, marking a major milestone in his career.

This year’s festival celebrates its 15th anniversary under the theme “TheLegacyXV,” recognising 15 years as the nation’s longest-running festival dedicated to youth culture, urban music, and creative expression.

Speaking ahead of his Harare appearance, Ignatius expressed excitement. “I’m feeling excited, over the moon. Considering it’s such a big platform, I don’t take it lightly. What I’m looking forward to most is making my mark on the big stage. I believe my comic style and delivery, unique and full of energy, will resonate. People will love and enjoy it,” he said.

The booking comes after a standout year for Ignatius. He was nominated for the 2024 National Arts Merit Awards Outstanding Stand-Up Comedian, establishing himself among Zimbabwe’s top comedic performers. Earlier in the year, he staged his one-man show, “Let It Out,” at the Bulawayo Theatre, earning critical praise.

Performing at Shoko Comedy Night positions Ignatius alongside some of the country’s elite comedians. The event will be headlined by internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean comic King Kandoro, providing Ignatius with national exposure to a diverse audience of urban culture enthusiasts.

This appearance at Shoko Festival signals a new chapter for Mbongeni Ignatius, reinforcing his rise as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising comedic voices.
