Ngoni Contemplates Leaving Music Amid Financial Struggles

Ngoni, the hit maker behind the popular track ‘Zvaunondiita So’, has opened up about the struggles he has faced as a musician and why he is considering leaving the industry for more stable career options.

In a candid interview on the Diaspora Conversations podcast with Stanley Kwenda, Ngoni revealed that his music career slowed down after relocating to the United Kingdom six years ago. He said the inconsistent income from music has forced him to explore other paths to secure his livelihood.

“After I moved to the diaspora I started doing a number of courses to better my career options. I worked as a forklifter, and I’ve also worked as a picker,” Ngoni said. “I would work for seven and a half hours getting only 30 minutes break. In one night alone I was expected to pick up at least 600 boxes.”

Ngoni also spoke about the emotional toll of his music career, admitting he often questions whether to continue. He said he has considered releasing a statement to announce his retirement, but a deeper connection to his art has stopped him.

“I think about giving up on music on a daily basis. Sometimes I think of releasing a statement that I’m now retiring. But a force bigger than me stops me from doing it,” he explained.

Ngoni’s story reflects the challenges many artists face, particularly those living abroad, as they balance passion with financial stability. The unpredictability of the music industry has left him contemplating a career shift while still holding onto the hope that his musical journey may continue.
