Oliver Mtukudzi: Celebrating a Legacy at OMFIA 2025

Oliver Mtukudzi, affectionately known as Tuku, passed away on January 23, 2019, at the age of 66. Beyond his music, he was a businessman, philanthropist, human rights advocate, and a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Southern Africa. His art and activism left an indelible mark on Zimbabwe and the wider region.

This September 19-20, the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts (OMFIA) returns for its second edition at the Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton, Zimbabwe. The festival promises a celebration of Tuku’s life and the social consciousness his music inspired.

Tuku’s daughter, Samantha Mtukudzi, confirmed that preparations are complete for the festival. This year, the event runs under the theme “Todii – Senzeni – What Shall We Do?” highlighting both reflection and action, a nod to Tuku’s enduring influence.

The festival will feature a lineup of top local and regional talent. Headliners include Senzeni, Feli Nandi, Jah Signal, Saintfloew, Tamy Moyo, Vee Mhofu, The Black Spirits, Agga Nyabinde, Mandava, Munya Nyamarebvu, Prestige ‘the Band’, Tatenda Mhangami, Mokoomba, Hwamanda, SaMasamba, and Terry Mbofana. Each artist will bring their unique style, echoing Tuku’s message of unity, resilience, and social responsibility.

OMFIA not only honors Tuku’s musical legacy but also his commitment to social change. The festival offers fans a chance to engage with his vision through performances, discussions, and community activities inspired by his humanitarian work.

The 2025 edition of OMFIA promises to solidify Oliver Mtukudzi’s place as a cultural icon whose work transcended music, inspiring generations across Africa and beyond.
