Throwback Thursday

Most people who have mapped out successfull careers have amazing and inspirational stories behind the milestones they have achieved. People easily forget that a journey to the 60th mile begins with a single step. Here is one celebrity who took risks and was bold enough to pursue his dreams. We reminisce at the journey of popurlar singer Winky D. He is considered one of the pioneers of zimdancehall.

Winky D started his musical journey in 2004. He went on to release the hit songs such as Rasta and Godo. The rhyming lyrics and smooth flow in the song made it a chart topper. He instantly became a household name. Winky D went on to release similarly good songs such as Rokesheni, Musarove bigman and Bhachi nejean. His songs were popurlar because of the way Winky D incoporated day to day situations into his lyrics.

He merely translated daily occurrences such as the lifestyle in the ghetto, political changes and daily struggles. Songs such as Rokesheni highlighted how people in the high density surbubs were living. Another song Tarino talked about the way in which technology was dominating and rapidly overtaking old concepts such as the use of morden cellphones instead of old landline phones.

Winky D managed to map out a fruitful musical career within the zimdancehall sphere. He used to be known as Bigman until it later changed to Gaffer, a name that speaks for itself about his standing within musical circles.

Winky D has managed to collaborate with both local and international artists such as Beenieman and Gemma Griffiths. He is currently rated as one of the best artists in Zimbabwe. He has perfomed both locally and internationally including a stint at the Coke Studio in Kenya.
