Legends Night Debuts in Johannesburg with Intotal Band Stealing the Show

Johannesburg’s Gold Reef City Lyric Theatre hosted the inaugural Legends Night on Sunday, delivering a memorable evening for music fans. Led by Joseph Chinouriri, Intotal Band captivated the audience with a performance that had fans calling for encores.

The show featured classic hits from iconic artists including Oliver Mtukudzi, Lovemore Majaivana, Thomas Mapfumo, Simon Chimbetu, and Paul Mpofu. South Africa-based artist Canaan Nyathi joined the band for a collaboration, performing Charles Charamba’s “Buruka” and Mtukudzi’s “Todii.” Mitchell Jambo also performed his hit “Rudo,” adding to the evening’s rich musical lineup.

Music veteran Clive Mono Mukundu attended as guest of honour and encouraged fans to continue supporting live music groups like Intotal. The event drew around 800 attendees, a strong turnout given that it fell on a Sunday.

Chinouriri expressed gratitude for the audience’s warm reception. “We are humbled by the reception that the group received. Seeing hundreds of people coming to watch your performance is just humbling. It was unexpected and awesome,” he said.

The band plans to expand their tour in 2026 with shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town, building on the success of this first outing. Comedian Nigel Maritinyu, known as Tha Slick Pastor, served as the event’s MC, keeping the audience entertained throughout the evening.

Legends Night’s debut marked a strong start, blending Zimbabwean musical heritage with vibrant live performances and setting the stage for future editions in South Africa.
