CAF backs the hosting of FIFA World Cup every two years
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee has pledged its support to the idea of organising the FIFA World Cup every two years instead of four.
The 21st edition of the world’s football spectacle which was last held in 2018 in Russia is set to be staged next year in Qatar and probably, if all football federations endorse the idea the next edition after Qatar will be held in 2024.
The committee, which is chaired by the continental football mother body’s president Dr Patrice Motsepe also called for the implementation of the recommendations of the final audit of the association conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Following a meeting by in Rabat, Morocco on Friday 16 July 2021, the CAF Executive Committee asked that FIFA should be informed of this favourable reception about endorsing the hosting of a men’s and women’s World cup every two years.
On the reorganisation of CAF, the committee gave its nod to the General Secretary of the organisation Veron Mosengo-Omba to quickly implement the PwC recommendations and explore the legal consequence of the findings of the report in an effort to reaffirm its commitment to good governance.
The Executive Committee also instructed the Interclub Committee to accelerate the feasibility study of the African Supranational League project.
The EXCO also further announced the first calendar for interclub competitions of the 2021/22 season with the kick-off set for September 10 while a draw for the preliminary rounds will be made on August 15 at the latest with bids to host the competitions opening in November.
