CAF sets date for AFCON finals draw

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team will know their Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opponents in a fortnight when the tournament draw is conducted in Yaoundé, Cameroon on the 17th of August.

The draw will enable the 24 countries participating at the biennial event to prepare adequately knowing their opponents before they descend on the West African nation’s capital Yaoundé for the extravaganza which kicks-off on the 9th of January 2022.

“CAF together with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Cameroon announce that the draw for the final phase of the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021, will take place on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Yaoundé Conference Centre, Cameroon at 19h00 local time (18h00 GMT),” said the continental football governing body on their website.

CAF also noted it will release more information in due course including the draw procedure and special guests.

Zimbabwe will be making their fifth appearance at the continental football showpiece after qualifying for the event with a game to spare.

However, Zimbabwe will be expected to go beyond the preliminaries given the current crop players they have and the experience they have in this tournament.
