Can Chiragwi deliver league success in Mhondoro?
By Geronimo News
Since gaining promotion into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League back in 2015 Ngezi Platinum Stars have over the years gone in search of league success but to no avail.
The closest that the club came to delivering PSL glory was in 2018 when they finished second behind run away leaders and eventual winners FC Platinum.
Despite having mounted a serious challenge, Ngezi Platinum were not able to last the distance with the club’s failure to win the title costing Tonderayi Ndiraya his job at Madamburo.
Though able to consistently feature in the top 4, it is the board’s desire to claim the league title that has continued to elude the club.
After taking over from Benjani Mwaruwari in July 2022 following a poor run of form, Takesure Chiragwi has been able to steady the Ngezi Platinum Stars ship with a run of 1 defeat, 6 wins and 4 draws underlining his credentials as a potential title winning coach.
After ending the 2021/2022 season with a run of 10 unbeaten games resulting in him being crowned the December Coach of the Month, the Ngezi Platinum Stars mentor will be undoubtedly one of the coaches to look out for when the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League begins in March.
Despite losing the services of Denver Mukamba, Anelka Chivandire and Tendayi Matindife just to name a few, Madamburo have been able to retain the core of the team with Malvin Gaki, Claude Mapoka and Gareth Madhake brought in to solidify their squad.
While big name coaches such as Joey Antipas, Norman Mapeza and Lloyd Chitembwe will go into the 2023 season with credentials of being past league winners, Chiragwi will be hoping to carve his name among the elite coaches that have previously won a league title.
