Zimbabwe international defender Takudzwa Gilroy Chimwemwe is set to begin new life in the Democratic Republic of Congo after penning a two-year deal plus an optional year with Tout Puissant Mazembe.
The Warriors right wing back joins the Congolese outfit from Zambian Super League side Nkana FC which he joined in 2021.
Announcing their new signing on their various social media platforms on Saturday, the Lubumbashi based outfit described Chimwemwe as a player of finesse and very clean in recovery.
“TPM is pleased to announce to its supporters the commitment for a two-season lease of Gilroy Chimwemwe Takudzwa. The new Ravens recruit is good defensively and offensively. He signed a two-season lease, until June 30, 2024, plus an optional year. Gilroy Chimwemwe Takudzwa, welcome to Kamalondo!” read a post on the TP Mazembe website.
After his contract with Nkana expired at the end of last month, the Dzivaresekwa bred player went for a two-week trial stint at the DRC outfit upon which he impressed the Pamphile Mihayo-led technical team prompting the five-time African champions to quickly sign him.
Born on October 26, 1992 in Harare, the 30-year-old right back rose to fame in 2014 when he joined Harare City FC in the Zimbabwean topflight before moving to Zambia 6 years later.
The defender turned out for Buildcon and Nkana in the MTN/FAZ Super League before Les Corbeaux scouts tracked him down.
Chimwemwe becomes the latest Zimbabwe to don the TP Mazembe jersey following in the footprints of Christopher Samakweri, Darryl Nyandoro and Ali Sadiki.
