Elvis Chipezeze in Contention for Goalkeeper of the Season Award in Betway Premiership

Zimbabwe Warriors goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has been shortlisted for one of the biggest accolades in South African football — the Betway Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season Award. The veteran shot stopper is up against tough competition from Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ronwen Williams.

The nomination comes after a standout season for Chipezeze, who captains Magesi FC. The former Chicken Inn keeper played a pivotal role in both league and cup competitions, including a memorable run in the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup, where he helped guide his team to an upset 2-1 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.

Chipezeze’s heroics between the posts earned him four Man of the Match awards this season, with his performance in the cup final earning widespread praise. His calm presence, sharp reflexes, and commanding control of the box were instrumental in Magesi FC’s solid campaign.

His stellar club form has not gone unnoticed on the international stage. The 34-year-old goalkeeper was recalled to the Zimbabwe national team and featured in the Warriors’ most recent international friendlies against Burkina Faso and Niger held in Morocco this past June. It marked a return to national duty for Chipezeze, whose consistent form has reignited hopes for Zimbabwe’s competitiveness in upcoming fixtures.

Chipezeze’s nomination for the prestigious Goalkeeper of the Season award is not just a personal milestone, but also a proud moment for Zimbabwean football. Should he clinch the award, it would further cement his legacy as one of the top goalkeepers to emerge from Zimbabwe in recent years.

As the football world awaits the outcome of the Betway Premiership awards, fans back home and across the region will be hoping Chipezeze’s name is called when the winner is announced — a reward for a season defined by resilience, leadership, and elite shot-stopping.
