Huge sigh of relief for Mapeza

By Geronimo News

There was a huge sigh of relief in the Warriors camp after the team’s doctor Nick Munyonga confirmed Kuda Mahachi’s injury was minor after the player was pulled out in Zimbabwe’s friendly match against Sudan in Cameroon on Sunday.

The news could not have come at a better time especially for coach Norman Mapeza who would be banking on the services of the experienced attacking midfielder to bolster his already depleted squad.

“It’s nothing serious. It’s a thigh contusion that resulted from a collision with an opponent. He should be okay in the next two to three days,” said Dr Munyonga.

With Zimbabwe reeling from the injuries suffered by top class players such as Marvelous Nakamba and Marshall Munetsi who usually form the heart of the Warriors midfield, Mahachi’s case had come as a major blow for the team who desperately need all their arsenal in good shape and form ahead of the much-awaited Africa Cup of Nations tourney which kicks off in less than a week.

Mahachi had his first kiss with the Warriors during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in January 2014 where he helped the team to a fourth-place finish after losing 0-1 to Nigeria.

And ever since then he has been a regular figure in the national team set up where he has so far made 41 appearances and scored four times.

It is such experience coupled with budding talent that the Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team’s technical set up will be relying on to steer the ship to glory.
