Luke Musikiri’s spectacular rise from rural football to signing for Dynamos

Article by Geronimo News

Luke Musikiri presents one of the most intriguing football stories of 2021 after signing his first professional contract at just the age of 16. It has been meteoric rise for Musikiri who has emerged from playing football in the rural areas to landing a contract with Zimbabwe’s most successful team Dynamos Football club.

Having grown up with his grandmother Musikiri was plucked out of the remote area of Checheche after being scouted by Prince Edward High School coach Pathius Mauto while representing Mutare province at national primary school games, “When I saw him his talent was raw but you could tell that he would become a good player. He has developed well and has the potential of becoming a prolific forward on the big stage”.

Having to migrate to Harare after earning a scholarship at Prince Edward High School, Musikiri established himself as one of the top junior players, scoring 34 goals in the school’s champions league, 28 goals in the Zimbabwe junior league and being voted player of the tournament when he travelled to Kenya for the Copa Coca-Cola Africa cup.

Despite an incredible goal scoring record Musikiri was astounded by the news of a move to the glamour boys, “To be quite honest I was shell shocked when I heard about the news that I will be going to Dynamos, it was unbelievable, I spent 5 minutes asking myself whether it was really true that I would be joining such a big club” said Musikiri.

Musikiri who cannot wait for the local game to return says he looks up to Dynamos right back Emmanuel Jalai while also being an admirer of Chile international Alexis Sanchez.
