Madamburo’s Chibuku dream

In a space of 24 hours, the king of the coveted Chibuku Super Cup competition will be crowned at Zvishavane’s Mandava Stadium as the curtain comes down on Zimbabwe’s premier knockout tournament.

In what is anticipated to be an exhilarating encounter in a repeat of the 2016 final of the same competition, pitting platinum-backed cousins FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars on Saturday (tomorrow), the mining town will once again come to a standstill.

With both teams having enjoyed fine form in the run up to the final the big question is, will Ngezi manage to repeat what they did five years ago or this time around playing away from home will take a toll on them since the 2016 final was staged at their classy Baobab Stadium.

While Madamburo coach Rodwell Dhlakama has been on record watering down the talk of lifting the Chibuku trophy emphasizing on the need to take it one step at time, now that they are in the final, is it not the other step they ought to take and silence their opponents in grand style?

In a war of football talent by the players and the coaches’ tactical acumen, until then it remains a mystery as to who will be the last man standing after the final whistle at Mandava Stadium.
