Mighty Warriors power past Botswana

By Geronimo News

The Zimbabwe national women’s soccer team produced an impressive display of attacking football as the walked away 3 nil victors over Botswana in their final group game of the Cosafa women’s championship at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Mighty Warriors were clearly the hungrier of the two sides in the opening half with the Zimbabweans dominating possession and making several entries into the attacking third. Zimbabwe came close to opening the scoring in the 22nd minute when Priviledge Mupeti’s attempted chip went inches wide with Botswana’s drawn out goal minder beaten.

Zimbabwe was finally rewarded for their enterprising play when Botswana failed to deal with a cross inside the box which was ultimately collected by Priviledge Mupeti who fired home at the near post to place the Mighty Warriors into a 1 nil lead.

The encounter would go to the half time break with Zimbabwe enjoying a 1 nil lead. In the second half Botswana upped the tempo but found it difficult to penetrate the Mighty Warriors backline.

Sensing their opponents desperation for an equalizer Zimbabwe would punish Botswana when Priviledge Mupeti this time turned provider and released a curling cross which was headed home by Mighty Warriors Captain Emmaculate Msipa.

Zimbabwe would put the game to bed 7  minutes from time when Rudo Neshamba released a thumping effort with her left boot to hand Zimbabwe a comprehensive 3 nil victory which took their points tally to 6.

With a best second runner up place at stake the Mighty Warriors will now wait for other final group games to be played in order to see whether they can secure a semi-final berth.
