PSL clubs resume training
Premier Soccer League clubs have returned to training for the first time in three months after government gave the nod last week for the resumption of all sports in the country.
There was a glimmer of hope in May that football would return to its full capacity following the hosting of the Chibuku Super Cup after almost two years of inactivity but again the game was put to a grinding halt a month later owing to a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Light was, however, finally seen at the end of the tunnel after a long crawl when the government through the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) gave the green light for the country’s most popular sport to return.
Top flight league clubs who have been eagerly waiting for the government approval did not have to be told twice about the development and were quick to put their houses in order by following the set COVID-19 protocols for them to be able to resume training in preparation for the September 29 Chibuku Super Cup kick off.
Apart from champions FC Platinum who have been preparing for the CAF Champions League, other notable clubs which have got the ball rolling are Mhondoro-based Ngezi Platinum Stars, Manica Diamonds of Mutare, Harare’s Caps United as well as Bulawayo Chiefs and Chicken Inn both from Bulawayo.
