Ten things you didn’t know about Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira.

The Zimbabwean rugby player who is based in South Africa recently announced his retirement. After his sterling perfomance at the world cup in Japan recently, the bulky Springbok player has decided to retire from the game. Here are some facts you didn’t know about the Beast.

1 He attended Churchill high school before moving on to Peterhouse on a full scholarship.

2 He was born on 1 August 1985 in Zimbabwe.

3 He made his debut appearance in the Springboks squad against Wales in 2008.

4 Tendai was officially cleared to play for the Springboks in 2009 after receiving clearance from the sports minister.

5 His retirement comes after him having played senior rugby for 12 years.

6 Tendai expressed gratitude to the South African people for embracing him. In an emotional tweet he wrote,”Thank you South Africa for adopting me as a son. And to all my amazing fans all over the world”.

7 He was once featured on lifestyle magazine Top billing. He gave the presenters access to his lavish home.

8 He is married to Kuziva and they have two children ,Twalumba and Wangu. 9 Beast has 117 test appearances for South Africa.

10 He is the third most capped Springboks player behind Victor Matfield and Bryan Hababa.
