Zimbabwe Karate Team Shines at AUSC Region 5 Games with Eight-Medal Haul

The Zimbabwe karate team returned home triumphant on Sunday after a strong showing at the AUSC Region 5 Games, bringing back a total of eight medals across individual and team events. The team’s performance highlighted the growing talent and competitive spirit of Zimbabwean karatekas on the regional stage.

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams secured bronze medals in the kata team category, showcasing technical precision and coordination. Their performances were led by standout athletes Geraldine Muusha and Lovemore Mutune, who also achieved individual success in the kata discipline.

Muusha claimed a bronze medal in the girls’ individual kata, while Mutune mirrored her efforts with a bronze in the boys’ category. The momentum carried over into the kumite events, where Mutune further impressed with a silver medal in the fiercely contested -68kg division.

In the girls’ kumite, Anita Machuma delivered a strong performance to earn bronze in the -59kg weight class, while Bongeka Mguni stepped up to take silver in the +66kg division, further cementing Zimbabwe’s presence on the podium.

On the boys’ side, Trinity Kotsi added another bronze to the team’s tally in the -68kg kumite, joining Mutune in one of the event’s most competitive divisions.
